How To Play Good: Be Mindful.

Tabletop role-playing games are exercises in collaborative storytelling. Whether you’re sitting around a table in someone’s house, at a game store, or via an internet app, you are interacting with real people who have real feelings and a real investment in what the group is doing.

What you do can when you’re participating in a game almost always does have real consequences in that group. It impacts other people and their enjoyment of the game.

Whenever you contemplate doing something in the game, ask yourself some questions:

  • Is this a good idea for the team?
  • Am I making it all about me?
  • Am I being selfish?

It’s really easy once you get used to it. Remember the most important rule of all: If what you want to do is fun for you and even might not be fun for anyone else at the table, you’re being selfish. Stop it.

You will have more fun if your friends are having more fun.

That’s it. Honestly.
