Our Commitment to Humans
R P Davis here, Head Kabouter lead designer at Kabouter Games. I’ve been in and around game design for a while now, as an amateur for nigh on 40 years, and as a professional since 2016. I want you to know the Kabouter Games policy on generative AI. It’s really simple:
We don’t use AI to write our books and we don’t use AI art in them either. Kabouter Games books come from human beings exercising their creativity.
But WHY?
I’ve seen too many horror stories about creatives being forced out of the TTRPG industry because their livelihood has dried up thanks to AI. That’s bad enough. Worse, unscrupulous users of AI are flooding marketplaces like DriveThruRPG with dreck. Even worse, unscrupulous users of AI are flooding marketplaces like Amazon not just with paltry dreck but with stuff that’s downright dangerous.
In most cases, especially in the creative space, AI simply does a worse job than humans do.
I don’t believe that AI makes Kabouter Games products better. And since I’m the boss, that’s the final word.
All that said, we’re only human! While we (okay, I) make every effort to not use AI-sourced material, I might fail to spot something like art or text. I work with freelancers who might slip something by me. If you notice anything, let us know at info@kaboutergames.com so we can deal with it promptly.
